TRIBUTE
Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme GCON (October 21, 1932 – November 19, 2017)
He was the first democratically elected Vice President of Nigeria from 1979 to 1983. He was removed from office in a military coup and was detained in a very controversial manner. He was a perfect gentleman in and out of office. One of the best ways to judge the character of a leader is how he treats subordinates especially civil servants who work with them. I interacted with him when he was the Vice president of Nigeria when I had to write his introductory biography. That was my schedule then as a civil servant, to write introductory biographies on national leaders, from the President of the Federation to other national leaders, for the Federal Ministry of Information. His depth as a leader and human being left an indelible impression on me. He was very knowledgeable, totally detribalised, very considerate, very fair and courageous. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
